The Buzz: July 2025

Phew! What a start to summer break. And yet, here we are staring down the Fourth of July and all the pomp and circumstance it demands.

When I ponder the current state of affairs, I am remiss if I do not take a moment to recognize that this Fourth of July is more poignant than others in my recent memory. This Fourth of July, while many celebrate the independence from tyranny, dictatorship, and colonization, there are many others still in a constant state of fight or flight. A fear so palpable that it bleeds into every news segment, every social media platform, discussions at family dinners. It is whispered about in public spaces and harbored within our hearts and our minds as we continue to step forward into a tumultuous unknown.

So, how do we celebrate such a holiday in the midst of so much division between “us” and “them,” when the “them,” by and large, should have every right to enjoy the basic tenants our country fought so hard to protect and preserve? How did we get here? What can we do?

For Bee Sage Farm, it is taking a lesson from nature. The good, the bad, the ugly.

Those in the Twin Cities experienced weather in the recent past, just days ago, that pounded the area with a torrent of rain the likes of which we have not seen in years. Thunder so loud it shook houses, lighting that sparked like colorless fireworks. For hours. In the middle of the night.

For those that feel powerless—myself included—during these tumultuous times, this storm was the perfect allegory for our current state of mind as we struggle to understand the “how” and “why” of our current social and political climate, all while being subjected to all that we inherently stand against.

But, in the midst of all the booming and banging, the flashes of light, there is a whisper of hope to come from the despair. A need to bubble up that which is dragging us down, but also revealing that which is harming our communities, so that it may be seen for what it is and what it represents, naked and unfettered.

Just as the storm will clean out all that is weak, break what no longer serves, prune what no longer thrives… so, too, our communal architecture will be stripped of pretense. I am in awe of both the ugliness and the beauty. I am terrified, yet hopeful. It is yin and yang, discordant and harmonic. Nature gives and takes. It is a balancing like no other that has endured since the beginning of time—flourishing, decaying, and ultimately resetting.

We are flourishing in our perseverance to stand against the decay of our social and political systems that bring the best of humanity to the forefront. We are identifying that which needs to be pruned to spur our future growth. We are resetting our expectations for how we choose to show up for others, even those with whom we disagree.

At Bee Sage, this means having open minds and hearts, embracing those that are present, listening without judgement, learning from others, being curious… open with both heart and mind with the commitment to move forward, one boot in front of the other. It means taking risks, adjusting, creating community, and—above all else—staying true to who we are: light beings absorbing and reflecting the light within.

Light beings, you ask? Yes. Light beings.

Light as in growing brighter as we continue to learn and grow, but also light as in releasing that which holds us down. Light. It is within and without us. Our light attracts and detracts other light beings to and from us.

This summer at Bee Sage, we opened up an opportunity for young light beings to share in our space through our first ever summer camp. We believe every child was guided to our farm to form community and connections with themselves, each other, and nature. Children are the purest form of light, and the farm delights in their energy, spirit, and wonder. In return, nature reveals its own energy, spirit, and wonder by offering experiences through the five senses.

On a farm tour, we found wild raspberries on a path we’ve hiked numerous times over the years and never noticed. I have wished for wild roses to be on the property and, lo and behold, they revealed themselves to the children in abundance where they were never seen before. Coincidence? Not a chance.

My own excitement passed to the children when I explained to them how I’d wished for them but never found any, and yet, here they were. Mature and blooming brightly against the backdrop of trees and overgrown brush. my light shining reflected back to me in the form of the light shining from the children. What a lovely exchange of energy. What a gift. How de-light-ful.

Thriving at Bee Sage is this simple.

And, yet, when we share in these simple acts, when we connect with others over shared moments, when we learn from and grow alongside one another, the cacophonous vibrations of the outside chaos fall away. We enact the change the greater systems fear: the acts of community, kindness, acceptance, empathy, compassion.

Look for the light. Feed the light. Be the light. Be the light, and watch how the world around you brightens and glows, even in the midst of uncertainty and perceived decline. Bee Sage shines bright and continues to grow by inviting others to participate, engage with its offerings, and hold space for one another—whether we are seeking shelter from pain, disappointment, disillusionment, darkness.

In this vein, there are many things happening at Bee Sage on the big stage and behind the scenes.

We continue to offer goat yoga once a month for those seeking some nature, exercise, and joyful entertainment all in one. Sign up to reserve your space.

Additionally, there is still space available in our weekly camps for kiddos to experience farm life: nature hikes, plant identification, animal care, general rest and relaxation, all in a high-vibrational outdoor environment.

Need some stress reduction, pain relief, or mental/emotional healing? Start a journey of complementary and integrative energy medicine via intuitive or reiki healing.

Do you have a pet in distress? I just completed a certificate program on animal reiki. Reach out for more information.

Behind the scenes.

Those of you that know me know that I have been on a reiki journey for the past couple of years to complement my intuitive healing practices. With all the lineages available, I have chosen to embark on the path of Usui Holy Fire Reiki. Despite completing the masker reiki training, I feel compelled to fully complete the sequence, which includes animal and Karuna reiki—the last two courses in the tradition.

While I have not yet committed to a Master Animal Reiki class, I have committed to the final step of Karuna Reiki. I am so excited to announce I will be taking this next step on Mt. Kurama in Japan in March of 2026. This journey not only challenges me energetically, but also physically. Climbing a mountain is not for the faint of heart, and I am no exception (no matter how big or small the mountain may be).

With that, this past March I began a fitness journey like no other, which includes a personalized training program created by Fithaus in Long Lake, MN. This program not only whipped me into shape but pushed me to my physical limits. Not going to lie, it came with aches and pains I never experienced in my younger, more athletic years. Bring on chiropractic care by Fortin Chiropractic, deep-tissue massage by Buzzella, acupuncture by Dr. Li, and future functional medicine meetings to round out this life-changing journey.

It is one epic year for self-healing, risk-taking, trust, and acceptance. My light has ebbed and flowed in ways I have not experienced before as I struggle mentally, emotionally, and physically. It has been an incredible “path not taken” thus far. The community I have grown around this endeavor has been incredible, with everyone coming together in ways I never could have imagined. I am grateful.

Community.

Let me just say that Bee Sage is constantly looking for ways to create more authentic connections, and rest assured, we have more BIG undertakings at work. While we cannot say too much about it just yet, just know that our next steps will test our limits, our faith, our trust.

We believe the outcome will be the most beautiful, spiritually guided project for Bee Sage and beyond.

We are grateful you are here cheering us on and supporting our initiatives. We see you, we hear you, and we are striving to create and promote the best of what we have to offer, always.

All the light,

Erika
