The Buzz: April 2025

Bee Sage Farm friends,

Spring has sprung! Or, has it? As the earth struggles to awaken from deep rest into rejuvenation, our spirits are calling out to be gently—or not so gently—awakened from slumber, and clamoring for a deep clean and release from any remnants dormant or otherwise that no longer serve our greater purpose.

Spring cleaning. A messy, sometimes painful, often time-consuming necessity to create space for all things bright and beautiful to enter our lives. Out with the old, in with the new. Don’t we do this on a regular basis during the full moons and lunar eclipses? Yes, of course; however, as we divest ourselves of that which no longer serves us, we recognize that springtime is a season of feeling, sensing, knowing whether these energies have truly been purified and released, or if we are providing safe harbor to residual energies that could take root when and where we least expect, derailing us from our paths forward.

Bee Sage Farm. It is no different. Spring cleaning is both literal and figurative. The farm animals need their enclosures cleaned out from the long winter, the hens are shaking out their feathers and taking as many dust baths as they can manage in between foraging and sunbathing. The ducks and our resident goose are frolicking in the open pond waters, flapping their wings as they skitter to and fro. The goats, too, are shedding their winter coats (as witnessed by the fur-ladened fencing from their continuous rubbing). Out with their winter bedding, and in with the new. It smells oh, so much better!

We are ready for warmer weather, true springtime activities like planting and pruning, mulching and transplanting. A new year, a new vision to layer upon our foundation. We have SO much to offer this year, and we are excited to get moving on new projects and offerings.

Farm Babies

First and foremost, we are anticipating the birth of kids. Nothing is as exciting as welcoming new life onto the farm—and this spring is no different.

Our does, Violet and Ginger, are expecting around the end of April or beginning of May. Will we have one set of twins, and one of triplets like in past years, or will we have single babies? Who knows! Stay tuned, as we plan to announce their births on the Bee Sage Farm Facebook and Instagram.

Second, we will have baby chicks. Every year, we get chicks to add to our ever-growing flock to assist and accommodate our older hens into retirement. If any of you have been to a farm store or checked online, chicks are tough to get this year due to the demand of eggs and price increases. Who knew chickens would become 2025’s hottest new pet? Let’s hope the influence is limited and the worst is behind us.

Summer Camps at Bee Sage Farm

In addition to all the traditional farm activities, we are gearing up for our first ever summer camps! Give your children the experience of daily life on a small Minnesota farm. Watch micro-farmers in their element and see how they work the land to bring garden treats to farmers markets around the Twin Cities. Learn how to care for farm animals, plant and harvest, hike on 32 acres, identify wild and medicinal plants, make crafts, and enjoy the outdoors.

Psst, this is a tech-free camp. Leave the iPads and iPhones at home!

Goat Yoga & Artisan Markets

Goat yoga is coming back due to popular demand, but this year, we will be incorporating more artisan markets to pique the curious, sustainable minds. Can you say… farm-made jams, sourdough bread, in-season fruits and veggies? Plus, occasional hand-made crafts and gifts!

You do not want to miss out on the full-body rejuvenation and emotional baby goat support, plus the great outdoors and delicious treats to take home and enjoy (no, not the goats, silly!).

As always, if you are a Harvest Host member, our farm is open to you for overnight stays. We welcome you with open arms and look forward to your visits.

Warmest regards,

Bee Sage Farm
