The Buzz: April 2026

Another winter under our belts and rather than the hunkering down as we Minnesotans tend to gravitate toward during these bitter months, we were called to do and be so much more than we could ever have imagined.

As the twin cities came together to support one another and planned various activities such as protests, food drives, safety escorts, Bee Sage Farm was buzzing with activity to support the local communities with classes, attending community events and through donations.

Let’s start with the big, noticeable event.

Those who have attended goat yoga, summer camp, a private event, a class or to purchase farm goods, you will notice this year something really, really big is missing. Yes, you guessed it. It is our barn. The iconic early 1900s era barn is no longer with us. Its condition, dangerous. The viability to salvage and restore negligible. While the structure no longer exists, Bee Sage has retained as much of the wood as possible to use in projects around the farm to keep the last vestiges of the barn alive in other structures.

What will go in its place, you ask? Good question.

We are currently flushing out ideas for a new type of structure to provide a multiuse functionality for all the activities hosted here at the farm. We are dreaming and who knows where our dreams will take us and how the land with inform our choices. Stay tuned. It is bound to be as exciting as is all the other happenings around the farm going forward!

All the other happenings? Yes! So much being developed.

For those of you who joined Bee Sage Farm last summer for camp, we have new programming for your children. First is our brand-new Camp Director, Sarah. We are so excited for Sarah to take over and manage summer camps. Sarah comes to us with experience working with children of all ages and across the neurotypical and neurodivergent spectrum. Having spent last summer as my counselor, Sarah is in a unique position to create the kind of summer camp curriculum to keep your kiddos active and engaged all day long. Sarah is responsible for hiring additional camp counselors and is the main point of contact for parents during camp.

Welcome Sarah! We are so lucky to have you!

Camps for kids are exciting, but what about grown-ups who might like a date night to be in nature, take a class, sip some adult beverages and just relax under the setting sun?

We have something new developing for you, too!

Check out our Art on the Farm series beginning on Thursday evenings in June. Our art teacher comes from the Orono school district with incredible references and tons of experience. Laura is truly one of a kind who loves to bring art into spaces that allow the mind the pause and the creativity to flow. Join us for these unique classes as a series or as a one-time event. Not an artist? Not to worry, no experience needed. Laura is patient and can guide even the most reserved, self-proclaimed non-artist to create something magical (myself included). Teachers and healthcare professionals, stay tuned. We are developing something special and one of kind solely for you. We recognize the time and energy you give to the world and we would like to give something back to you. Check back often to participate!

In the spirit of development, as the farm is experiencing tremendous growth, I decided it was time for me to get in the game. This past March I was busy not only teaching small souls in the academic settings but also growing my reiki and intuitive practices. This led me to Japan, a trip one year in the making. Yup, you read that right. I committed myself to take a journey of self-reflection and growth with like-minded souls to the heart of Japan where my lineage of reiki began: Mount Kurama. The training was intense and exhausting. It was physically challenging as we hiked up the mountain daily to sit among the same trees as our founder Usui Sensi. The energy is incredible. The temple that sits beside one of many energy vortexes around the world was simply stunning. Participating in temple service, meeting the mountain guardians and numerous mountains spirits, gods, goddesses, and walking amongst the gnarled roots and hundreds of years old trees was magic. It is magic. While the world continues to show us what needs to be changed, healed, dismantled, updated, we each have a part or role to play in moving humanity closer to peace, love and joy. Taking this final class in my reiki journey allows me to offer healing, comfort, support and growth with a full tool kit. I cannot wait to offer you the power of spiritual, physical and emotional growth through my newly acquired reiki and intuitive healing practices. It is an honor to work beside each and every one of my clients. I am humbled by their faith and courage as they allow me to join them on their healing path.

Japan outside the training is simply spectacular. There are so many wonderful things to note about the country words will not do it justice. The cherry blossoms not only a beautiful backdrop to an already gorgeous backdrop but the smell is simply divine. Cherry blossom season did not disappoint, and it is something I will look forward to again someday. Not into cherry blossoms? The Hibiscus were in bloom, too. Gorgeous, bright red flowers dotting the mountain sides, alleyways, busy streets. Humans love to look at them, deer love to snack on them. How do I know? I met one on one of my many mountain treks during training. How lucky am I to bear witness to such a creature in its natural habitat unafraid and uninhibited as I watched it eat and meander through the grove. Not so much into deer? How about monkeys visiting the rooftops in search of goodies to eat? As the owners of the lovely little lodge were unloaded their groceries for the week they caught a monkey red handed in the back of the truck looking as guilty as a wild monkey can while holding two oranges that most certainly did not belong to it. Hmmm, Abu? Is that you? Nice to meet you. If animals are not your speed, the lovely mountain creek gurgling just outside our lodge is natures lullaby in the evening and its wakeup call in the morning. The ocean surf has nothing on this babbling creek. Did I mention the food? Oh my goodness. Would I move to Japan simple to nosh on their delicious small plates, desserts, soups and all the rest? You bet I would. Eating healthy is so easy and not even a thought goes into whether not the dish is good for your waist. Walking to just about everything allows for daily indulgence in the not overly sugared but flavorful desserts. If you have not been or are not planning on visiting Japan, I urge to reconsider. You will not be disappointed. Oh, and as a side note, stay at the Godzilla hotel!

Right, back to the farm.
